Basti's Baloney Adventures Part 1 - ACET

Guys, make sure you pass the forms COMPLETE, or else hindi ipo-process ng Office of Admission and Aid yan. So hello, I am Rafael Bastillo, Senior. Anyway, yang naca-caption na yan, lalo na yung naka-capital, yung COMPLETE, huwag na huwag niyong kakalimutan yan. If ever na makalimutan niyo, well ikekwento ko sa inyo kung ano mangyayari sa inyo.

MONDAY - Medyo Chill Day

Last week of passing the ACET form, tapos ko nang i-fill up yung application form and the scholarship form (dont judge, mahal kaya Ateneo). What I was just waiting for was the certificate of employment ata yun, from my dad, who is working in Singapore. So after classes, I notified Sir Mike (our counselor) about that. Sabi niya, okay naman daw. So stay muna ng konti, usap usap, and then alis.

TUESDAY - Thanks sa Patience Mommy

I went again to the Guidance Office to see Sir Mike. So pasok kami sa office ni Sir Mike, as usual, madaming tao. Well, wala kasing signature. I asked Sir Mike if pwede, but HINDI. As expected, from good, naging bad mood si mommy, and na bad word din ako.

WEDNESDAY – Hell Day

So I asked again, Sir, where can I get one? Diretsong sagot ni Sir Sa OFAD. Saan daw? Tinanong ko Saan yun sir? Isa pang diretsong sagot Sa Ateneo WAIT WHAT?!?!?! PUPUNTA AKO SA ATENEO PARA DUN?!??? Yes Basti. SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

WEDNESDAY PART 2 - Adventure time!

Bakit? Retreat namin. So I really need to test my clutch skills. So right after dismissal, diretso ako Shang para maghintay ng taxi at pumunta ng Ateneo. Pagdating pa ng Katips, sobra, as in SOOOOBBBBRRRAAAAng traffic. Inabot ako ng 45 minutes. So pagpasok ko ng Ateneo, I was like Hmmm, lemme see if Conyo nga talaga tao dito I started walking sa building na kaharap nung field, I asked one student/professor (mukang estudyante, professor kung mag-english) “Hi! Umm, where can I find Kostka Hall? Aba, mabilis to mag-english, pinakinggan ko lang talaga yung directions Go straight, then turn left when you see the ATM Machine Oh okay, thank you. So FINALLY, I FOUND IT. Pagbukas ko ng pintuan, HAY SALAMAT, parang gates of heaven. Sabi ko Hi, u-Pinutol yung sinasabi ko ng isang tao dun Hi, will you buy an application form?Sabi ko naman Not really the whole application form, but a tinny part of it. The acknowledgement slipSabi nung isa dun, No need to pay for it, how many will you be needing?

MORAL OF THE STORY?
1. HUWAG BURARA, keep your things in one place na madaling hanapin.
2. GIVE BACK WHATS GIVEN TO YOU, In College Forms case, make sure na kung ano ibinigay sayo, yun din ang ibalik mo.
3. MATUTONG MAGCOMMUTE, Promise, kakailanganin mo ito.
and  4. SMILE, Be positive, kakayanin mo yan. Walang namang nawawala kung ngingiti ka.

Career Symposium Chronicles

Last September 15, as part of the Career Guidance Program, notable alumni from various fields of career returned to their alma mater to give short but meaningful speeches to the Grade 9-Regular and Third Year students in order to help them choose their future careers. The list of speakers, the fields they represent and their respective batches is as follows:

Arts-Mr. Jason Magbanua (Batch ‘91)
Engineering-Mr. Joshua Reggie C. Merlan (Batch ’09)
HRM-Mr. Carlos Edwin S. Aguilar (Batch ‘06)
Multimedia Arts-Mr. Dale. Custodio (Batch ‘86)
IT-Mr. Michael Adrian Borja (Batch ’89)
Medicine-Mr. Henry David N. Dimaano (Batch ‘89)
Business-Mr. Mr. Meliton Oliver R. Darvin (Batch ’78)
Inspirational Talk-Mr. Teofilo C. Isaac Jr. (SOL President SOL ‘89)

Here is what Mr. Candelaria, one of the participants, have to say about the event:

"Last month, the grade 9-regular and third year students experienced a talk by some Alumni of Lourdes School of Mandaluyong who came from different fields of professions. We heard different experiences from the invited speakers. I was inspired and motivated by the speakers but there was one speaker who caught my attention – Mr. Carlos Edwin Aguilar, the speaker who represented the Hospitality Industry. He worked in hotels because the only thing he wanted after graduating is a job that will make him wear a suit every day in order to look presentable and ravishing every day of his life. Aside from that, the best thing about his job is that he gets to see the smiles on the people that he has helped.  There’s this one experience that he shared with us and that was when he made a married couple very happy because of a very heart-melting photo that his crew took. The married couple thanked him because that simple gesture. This story touched my heart and made me appreciate the speaker because he’s very funny, nice and evidently selfless. He will do everything he can just to make sure that his customers are pleased not just in the outside but especially in the inside. “Follow your heart” is what I have learned after this speaker shared his experiences. If we follow our heart, we might end up in the condition that we want. The saying does not only apply to one’s daily life but it is also relates to choosing a course in college and the career that we want to end up with. Because of this speaker, I realized that I should be more selfless and be of service to others.

The speakers surely inspired me and I think the other participants felt the same way. One of the things that I kept in mind was that I should love my job and know how to be happy in my chosen career. In the future, I look forward to speaking in front of future generations of Lourdesians and I will be sharing experiences about my career and profession. I will be giving tips and insights on how to choose and enjoy one’s career as much as my mentioned speaker did during my time. If LSM conducts a career symposium in the future, I promise to speak in front of my Alma mater and share my favourite experiences in LSM. I appreciated the fact that all of the speakers never forgot their second home, their alma mater. Lastly, as a true Lourdesian, never forget to be selfless, humble and happy. Thank you and Pax et Bonum."

Taking the Second First Step - University Fair Day 2

August 22 marked the second University Fair for SY 2014-2015 held at the St. Lawrence of Brindisi Hall. The seniors, dressed in their sharp smart casual attires, roamed around the venue in search of potential colleges that offers the courses of their choice. Twelve schools with specialty programs graced the event and entertained the queries of the graduating students. (To see the list of participating schools, click here.) Just like the first installment of the 2-day event, Lourdesians were able bring home tons of brochures, goodie bags and lots of freebies.

Trivia:

  • The Director of ESA is a proud alumni - SOL '81
  • The Marketing Head of APC is Ms. Aguilar's graduate school classmate.
  • Lyceum of the Philippines will not get another invite anytime soon.
